September 1, 2013 - Mill Creek Fire Company will be sending out its second notice for its annual fund drive. Letters will be in the mail around the first week in September asking our residents for a donation. Almost 4,000 residents made a donation during the first appeal sent in March 2013. Our goal this year is to reach $200,000. So far $150,184 was redeived to date. The members and officers would like to sincerely thank everyone that has donated in support of their local fire company.
March 29, 2013 - Mill Creek Fire Company's annual donation request is well under way. On March 29, 2013 we mailed 15,432 letters to the residents of our fire district. For many decades Mill Creek Fire Company has sent out a donation request letter asking for the community's assistance in supporting their local volunteer fire company. Our goal for 2013 is $200,000. The fund drive will continue throughout the year so we can try to reach our goal.
The volunteer fire service saves the residents of the State of Delaware over $181 million annually.(1) Delaware is protected by volunteer firefighters throughout the State except for the City of Wilmington. In some cases the State's volunteer fire service supplements their volunteers with employees to staff the ambulance due to the considerable demand for this service. With over 4,400 medical emergencies last year, Mill Creek Fire Company supplements their volunteer staff with nine full time employeesalong with part time staff. That's an average of 12 ambulance responses per day.
We encourage all residents to support their local volunteer fire company. We would also like to express a sincere "thank you" to everyone that has sent in their donation so far this year.

On January 1st, 2011 a new law to protect emergency workers and first responders took effect in Delaware. Called the "Move Over" law, it requires any driver approaching a stopped emergency vehicle that has its lights activated, to either move over into a lane that is not next to the emergency vehicle, or to reduce his or her speed to a "safe speed" while passing the emergency vehicle if changing lanes would be impossible or unsafe. The law applies specifically to roadways having two or more lanes going in the same directions.
